Aterballetto's Romeo and Juliet

Last week I went to see "Romeo&Juliet", a modern bellet performed by an Italian company, the Aterbaletto. This is not my first time with this company. In 1997, Aterballetto came to perform at the Bangkok Playhouse. I remember I was extremely impressed by the show. In fact I loved it very much and I always thought that this was one of the best modern ballets I had seen. I must say that, personally I don't enjoy watching contemporary dance or modern ballet very much. I mean I used to love it when I was young. But somehow, this particular genre of art stops intriguing me anymore. They all look more or less the same, be it movement, facial expression, set or costumes. However in 1997 Aterbaletto was different, it was a rare gem and I fell head over heel in love with it . The performance touched me deeply.

But 10 years have passed and this time, inspite of the fact that all dancers were still very good with their techniques and skills, the company failed to impress me. I don't know why. Maybe it's the selection of a show ( Romeo&Juliet with new interpretation? C'mon, there's nothing new in this interpretation : Love, Bondage, Passion, Emancipation , Dead, blah blah blah) Maybe it's the size of the venue, Thailand Cultural Center is very big and all impact's lost before it reached me. Maybe the seat I occupied was too far from the stage. I don't know. Sure there were some exciting moments but that moments were short-lived. These sketches are for some of those memorable moments.
